v.06 Progress Log


Progress Log -

Development on v.06 is underway! The move was a success, I completed the majority of things that Zakko needed from me, and I've been back at work full-time on the update this past week - and made some pretty good progress!

The writing section is done, which to be fair Moth completed Brenda's scripts months ago but I also got Leslie's done so scripts are a wrap!

Coding is mostly done, there's not a ton to do in Pre-Production, mostly me figuring some new things out for the update - should be wrapped in another day or so.

Art encompasses all the new stuff involved with the update, and I'm burning through it! I'm realizing that for the most part it felt like the first x.5 update didn't require a ton of new stuff, since we were dealing with the family and most of their look and feel is already established, but for .05 and now .06 it feels like I need a ton of stuff for them! I've been making a bunch of new maps, some items, and new character sprites this week, I have a couple left but will be working to complete the new bust art for everyone involved this coming week, and should be able to jump into actual Production next week.

Speaking of Production, I'm gonna try something different this time and see if it speeds up my workflow at all. How I usually work is I do one event at a time and rotate tasks  - coding, animation, then art. This time I'm going to do everything in one go - all the coding, then all the animations, then all the art. My hope is that by not switching tasks as often it'll speed me up a little, but who knows.

Downloaded the latest version of the game on mac july 1st. Awesome  content. There is a bit of a bug with buying chocolates for the date with Sabrina. Specifically, the dialogue when mom asks for you to do laundry keeps repeating with slightly different variations. this continues a bit but ends by the time you get home to make the gift.

Thanks for reporting, I was made aware of this after the last bug patch so it'll have to wait til next version but it has been fixed. Issue was the conditional dialogue was all playing instead of what was relevant to a particular save

Cool. Could you also add a back button for dialogue? Sometimes I miss a line in a scene or two and then I have to replay the entire thing to figure out what I missed.

Unfortunately rpg maker doesn't work well with dialogue scroll. We're working on ways to add a log you can reference afterwards but going back and forth during events isn't doable

Are you going to rerelease the game first or middle of the month?

I don't do dates ahead of time, and only announce a date when I'm ~2 weeks out and starting bug fixes.
If you meant first or middle of this month, it will very likely be several months before I complete this next update

Great stuff, looking forward to the update.

Hopefully batching the works doesn't blow out your timeline, but yes context switching has its own downsides too.
